 TIBETAN SOLIDARITY COMMITTEE (Tibetan Government-in-Exile)

In view of the present crisis in Tibet, we urgently appeal to the UN and the International community to:

  1. Immediately dispatch independent fact finding delegations to Tibet
  2. Immediately allow free press to cover the whole of Tibet
  3. Immediately end the brutal killings in the whole of Tibet
  4. Immediately release all arrested and imprisoned Tibetans
  5. Extend immediate medical assistance to the injured Tibetans
  6. Allow free movement of people and provide access to daily needs

‘Stories alone will not last the long night’

The Government of PRC has claimed they have enough evidence to prove that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the mastermind of the recent peaceful protests in Tibet. However, today in Xinhua, the official website of PRC, leave alone the well informed international community, even a child would not be convinced of the selective unstructured reasoning that has been put forward.

Similarly, according to the views expressed by some of the diplomats who visited Tibet on an officially conducted tour, the authorities have not only accepted the fact that they have arrested many peaceful demonstrators since 10th March, but also could not convince the diplomats on many of their queries. In brief, the leadership of PRC and Tibet Autonomous Region did not take cognizance of the reality of the situation but tried to implicate the involvement of His Holiness as an easy way out of their failures. In fact, it is proven that such tactics cannot last for long. The best way forward is to take cognizance of the reality and redress the situation by holding substantive negotiation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Sources of information are becoming more difficult day by day. However according to  reliable sources, despite heavy deployment in all parts of Tibet, Chamdo and Karze in Kham reported fresh peaceful demonstrations. Yesterday, 100 monks of Wara monastery in Chamdo, Kham protested peacefully. Detailed information are not available. Again the day before, the Nyagrong District chief and the work team came to Shiwa monastery for patriotic education and insisted on the monks to denounce His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The monks retaliated and forced the work team out of the monastery.

In another incident, the authorities sent search parties to the upper Ngaba region- Adu, Achok Dialectics and Gomang monasteries. Many monks were arrested. The monks were forced to hold Tibetan Flags and photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and pictures were taken to create false evidence.

Circular: Hoist the Flag and Tie the Armbands

The non-violent demonstrations, which began on March 10, 2008 in Lhasa, have now spread all over three different provinces of Tibet. These unplanned peaceful protests have been met with severe repercussions leaving hundred of Tibetans killed, several hundreds injured, and thousands imprisoned unjustly.

The Tibetan Solidarity Committee, constituted by the Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament in exile, urgently request all Tibetans and international Tibetan supporters to hoist the Tibetan National Flag on their rooftops or any location where the flag is highly visible. In addition to hoisting the National flag, tie a black armband on the right arm until the crisis concludes, to show our solidarity with Tibetans suffering inside Tibet. The black armband is to represent the current crisis inside Tibet.

In order to create a stronger message, we declare Sunday, March 30, 2008 the day to concurrently hoist the Tibetan National flag in unity. This action may be carried out at a given time to be decided locally. We appreciate your cooperation in advance.  -
